The Forgotten Alex

"Hey Kid, there are spoilers up ahead."

Mega Man Star Force, set in the year 220X in the same universe as Battle Network (That's atleast 200 years, don't expect Lan or Megaman.EXE to show up here.) Let's jump into it, shall we?

~THE STORY~

Stated above, the story is set in 220X in the same universe as Battle Network. The Internet is no longer the main focus, PETs are no longer being used, so dont expect to see a bunch of NetNavis running around everywhere.

MEET GEO STELAR

Geo Stelar, the main protagonist of the series, a fifth-grade kid living in the town of Echo Ridge. Geo Stelar has been depressed for about three years and hasnt gone to school because his father, Kelvin Stelar, astronaut and scientist, suddenly disappeared in a space station when it exploded.

One day, one of Kelvin's good friends, Aaron Boreal, comes by Geo's house to give him Kelvin's Visualizer (The Green Glasses you see on his head in the picture above.)

Geo sets out to his usual spot in Echo Ridge, but is interrupted by a *coughtsunderecough* girl named Luna Platz, along with her 2, somewhat at this point, "lackeys", Bud Bison and Zack Temple. (When I say tsundere, I mean to the max, hell, just play the game and look at the dang girl.) Luna Platz is Echo Ridge's Class President, and she desperately tries throughout the game to get Geo to go to school.

Up at Vista Point after the (eversohelpful) time skip, Geo laments over his dad as he looks at the stars. As Geo puts on his visualizer, suddenly, he sees a flash of light heading right towards him from above him and gets struck by it. Oh look, its your other just-as-important-as-Geo Protagonist.

MEET OMEGA-XIS

Omega-Xis, an alien from Planet FM who comes to Earth to hide the Andromeda Key, also claims to know about Kelvin Stelar's disappearance, before this can happen though, viruses start invading a nearby machine. Omega-Xis, having the same frequency as Geo, instructs Geo to get to a Wave Hole (orange...holes) and perform a EM Wave Change, reluctanly, Geo does it.

"EM WAVE CHANGE
GEO STELAR,
ON. THE AIR.!"

NOW THE REAL FUN BEGINS

~GAMEPLAY~

Gameplay is somewhat similar, yet vastly different from Battle Network, for one major difference, the battles are now in a 3D-esque environment. Another change is that Megaman can only move to the left and the right of his current lane, so no moving up or down or around the field anymore, to cover for defense, Megaman is equipped with a shield that blocks most attacks.

Due to Omega-Xis's impact while Geo had his Visualizer on, he can find wave holes in the real World and Wave Change in those spots to access the Wave Road.

The Wave World works in just about the same way as the Internet in Battle Network, collect items, fight viruses, fight bosses, "pulse out" anywhere, etc.

Megaman Starforce allows you to link up with your friends and have Wave Battles. They also allow you to become "Brothers" through a system called the Brotherband (Here's an interesting fact, who claimed they were going to be a scientist about 200 years back? Guess who invented this?), the brotherband system allows Megaman to randomly get a special card from a roulette, they also allow another feature i'll explain...about...you know. Now.

~TRANSFORMATIONS~

From left to right, Pegasus, Leo, and Dragon forms of Megaman. You get these forms later in the game and they are SO useful. You use a special card in your folder to access this transformation to transform at the start of a turn. Pegasus is a Water element, Leo is a fire element, and Dragon is a grass element. Getting hit by a type your transformation is weak to causes you to lose that transformation for the rest of the battle.

Before you ask, if you have people in real life to link up to, you arent limited to just one transformation. Say you form a brotherband with a Pegasus when you're a Leo. You can access Pegasus' and Leo's transformations in battle.

Countering with these transformations in a battle nets you a special ability, whether it be a thousands giant ice spikes erupting from the bottom of the field, a leafy tornado, or a giant freakin' flamethrower, they're all useful in their own ways.

~SOUNDTRACK~

Oh, my, GOD! This game has a lot of memorable tracks, some like Time Square, Dust Crash, and Deep Space. I think it really is a step-up from the music in Battle Network. It really captures the atmosphere in great ways.

~FINAL SCORE~

Throughout the game, you'll meet many friends and foes, and you'll help Geo with his depression on the way. Making brothers and beating the crap out of many viruses, I can safely give this game a...

8/10

Great plot, great music, great Battle system. It's got a lot on this plate for you to devour. It's all delicious too. like a hella-sweet cake.
