Title: April Fools? PLEASE READ. (Concerning a Virus)
Post by: Dracoslythe on March 29, 2009, 07:14:48 PM
If you saw my latest artwork on the "Sonic Fan Art" topic, then I hint-mentioned this.

As far as I read, there's a bad swarm of viruses that will be launched as a April Fool's Day prank...sick little f***kers.  D<
The thing is...it's not that it's going to be RELEASED on April Fools Day - only its payload is. Fact is, you could easily already have it.
The virus is a malware called Conficker C.

There are two very simple things you can do to cut your risk.

1.) Make sure your virus scanner is up to date and you scan every day. You should make sure of this anyway, but it's a good idea to be cautious right now.
2.) This one is actually far more effective than one would think - on the 31st, set your clock back 24-48 hours or forward to April 2. Set it to the correct time and date on April 2. This way April 1 - the day the payload is supposed to be released - is skipped as far as the computer knows. This way, unless the virus is communicating with an external server for the time (which is most likely not the case - you should be able to detect and block this, and "time bombs" are supposed to be undetectable until they go off), the threat can be considered contained.

Just to be safe here's some tips!
1. Never answer any messages from unknown links or users you don't know. If you do, then immediately click out of there and scan your computer for any trojans or virus.

2. Always scan your computer for any virus.

3. Never download anything from any person, website, links, pop-ups you don't know or trust.

If you have a Windows Operating System, make sure that the "windows update" is NOT disabled.  Windows Update is in charge of the firewall and updates to keep your computer safe)

You'll know if your computer is already attacked if you click on windows update and it says something is disabled that SHOULDN'T be.

THIS MAY BE A JOKE, CONSIDERING THE DATE, BUT BE SAFE, PLEASE, GUYS.

It could be real, it could be fake. If it does happen though, I may need a new pair of pants. And maybe even a new computer.

Seriously.. I'm a logical person, just to mention it. People are overreacting about this. They're even afraid to go on YouTube. YouTube would never upload any viruses. Second, it's obviously a joke.

Seriously, guys. Just chill out, and mess with your friends today

Heh, I guess I'm lucky I wasn't able to browse all day yesterday then... but I'm still guarded by McAfee software for now anyway. And Vista comes with that stuff built in too.   : D

Draco.Chan is right guys, you might even lose your password to sonicROMS, which gets changed by trojans and such coming with viruses. Really helpful tricks Draco! I already knew but it's good to let other know

Viruses are the stupidest f---ing things in computers. I remember a few months ago, we got one on the home PC.

It disconnected it from the internet, and it was a self-downloaded false 'antivirus'. I spent about six hours on a website on my laptop going through the regristry on that computer trying to fix it, because I'm more competent than my dad in computers.

Needless to say, I fail'd and we got it sent off to a friend.

Who makes them? That's just like asking someone nicely NOT to bully the little kid; I reckon it is the antivirus companies. It's the only way they are going to ever make money, by messing around with perfectly normal people.

Then again, some viruses probably started off as security measures on government sites...

Eh.

Wait... A a few months ago? That might have been that damn virus anyway!
